UEFA Nations League: Leon Goretzka and Manuel Neuer out of Germany squad due to Covid-19
UEFA Nations Cup: Germany will be without
their captain Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka during their latest set of
international games.
The Central European nation
is currently second in the Nations League group, one point behind leaders
Hungary. They will look to register victories in both games to secure their
place in the next round of the competition.
Julian Brandt will also miss
the game after leaving the team hotel with flu-like symptoms. He was also
tested for the virus but his report came as negative

Germany’s latest fixtures due to Covid-19
The German Football Association confirmed earlier this week that
Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka will miss their upcoming set of fixtures due to
Covid-19.
Both players have already left the team hotel and will isolate
themselves from their respective homes. Hansi Flick has already called up
Oliver Baumann to replace Neuer, while Maximilian Arnold will join the team as
a replacement for Goretzka.
The two players are
understood to have contracted the virus while at the Oktoberfest Beer Festival
with the rest of their Bayern
Munich teammates on Sunday. This is the second
time Neuer has contracted the virus. He also came in contact with COVID-19 when
the virus outbreaks in the Bavarians squad in January.
Gareth
Southgate added Jordan Henderson to replace Kalvin Phillips
England manager Gareth
Southgate has added Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson to replace Kalvin
Phillips in the Three Lions UEFA Nations League squad. Phillips recently picked
up a shoulder injury whilst at Manchester City and will undergo surgery in the
coming days. He is unlikely to return to full fitness before the FIFA World
Cup.
Speaking on Phillips’ injury,
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said (via Sports
Illustrated): “I don’t know (how long he will be
out) I’m not a doctor – but in a good way he can arrive for the World Cup.
The
doctor said the only solution right now is to do what he has to do. Now it will
be not long but a little bit longer.”
Henderson’s inclusion in the
squad has itself raised a lot of eyebrows as he himself has not played a single
minute of competitive football since August. The Sunderland midfielder.
