Matthew Hayden Believes Rohit Sharma Has Been Unfair to Dinesh Karthik Ahead of T20 WC 2022

T20 WC 2022: After being questioned about Dinesh Karthik‘s place in India‘s starting XI, Matthew Hayden‘s take has created quite a stir. It goes without saying that the veteran Australian’s response raises the stakes and the excitement.


A busy period is anticipated for cricket as the T20 World Cup 2022 approaches. The Playing XI is currently being finalized by Rahul Dravid, the head coach, and Indian captain Rohit Sharma.

Each game that passes just heightens the drama and intrigue around the Dinesh Karthik situation. Recently, there have been debates regarding him and Pant for the wicket-keeping position. Karthik has clearly been shaped by the team selection to be India’s finisher for the T20 World Cup.

Karthik’s treatment in relation to his spot in the starting XI has at times been rather puzzling. Axar Patel was ordered to bat first in the opening T20I between India and Australia at Mohali. Meanwhile, Karthik, was being held back, which would definitely have irritated him.

​Axar had trouble getting going in the match against the Kangaroos in Mohali. Karthik’s momentum was then squandered too as he was removed so quickly after making six runs off five balls.

Many ex-cricketers questioned the choice to bring on Axar ahead of Karthik. Many criticized the strategies used to keep him out of the last few overs by Karthik, which generated a lot of debate.

One of the many people who has questioned the idea is former Australia opener Matthew Hayden. Moreover, he was visibly taken aback by the controversial tactics and questioned Karthik’s position on the team.

 “I was just thinking about the role of Dinesh. This role Dinesh is playing now, for the life of me, I can’t work out why he wouldn’t be in their batting now. It doesn’t make any sense to me whatsoever,” Hayden stated.

DK should have had plenty more chances to bat, according to Hayden. When compared to the options he now has, it is fairly accurate. Hayden thinks that Karthik should be batting higher in the order more given his talent and steely resolve throughout 2022. This is despite the fact that he has historically been known to bat as a finisher.

Hayden was in agreement with Ajit Agarkar. The former fast bowler for India highlighted how important it is for India to use and maximize Karthik. This is especially true in view of the fact that they have made it clear that Rishabh Pant is not as supportive of them as they are of the seasoned wicketkeeper.
