News: Bruno Fernandes Takes a Dig at British Pundits
Manchester United News: Manchester
United star Bruno
Fernandes has criticised British Football
punditry by referring to Arsenal flop Nicolas
Pepe.
For the past some time, football experts have criticised Fernandes’s
performance for his club after his club finished at the 6th position in the
last season’s Premier League table.
In an interview with The
Athletic, Fernandes talked about many positive
aspects under new manager Erik Ten Hag. He also hit back at all the criticisms
he heard.
The Manchester United midfielder also gave an example of Nicolas Pepe and
argued how quickly he adapted to the Premier League than most players.
Manchester
United News: Bruno Fernandes at United
Fernandes joined the Red Devils in the 2020 winter transfer
window for a fee of around €55 million with an additional €25 million add-ons.
He became an instant hit at Old Trafford. In that half season, he scored 8
goals and provided 7 assists for his new club.
In the post-Ferguson era, Fernandes is one of the best deals of Manchester
United. Fernandes has scored 51 goals in his 134 appearances for United.
His goalscoring form dipped in the 2021-22 season when he scored just 10 times
in all competitions. Fernandes has now taken over the captaincy role after Ten
Hag dropped Maguire. But the player is not in his best form right now, as he
has scored just one goal in eight games for United in all competitions.
Fernandes’s Comments on Pepe
In the interview, he told: “He
[Pepe] had some bad games and everyone was saying, ‘He still has to adapt’.”
But he is not satisfied with his unjustified criticism, as he added: “but when Bruno was having a bad game, it was just because he
was moaning or not focused on the game”.
Fernandes also talked about how passionate he is about his club.
The 28-year-old also spoke
about playing against his countrymen who play in the Wolves. He revealed: “I play against Wolves and there are many Portuguese players (in
the Molineux squad) but if I have to kick them, I will kick them.”
How was Pepe at Arsenal?
Nicolas Pepe came to Arsenal in the 2019 season under Unai
Emery’s tenure. He became Arsenal’s club record signing after completing a €79
million move from Lille.
But
he has now been labelled as one of the most expensive Premier League flops.
In his 112 appearances for the Gunners, he has managed to score only 27 goals
and has provided 21 assists. His game time got reduced after Arteta’s arrival.
Many experts believed that Pepe needed more time to adapt to the Premier League
football style. But it is clear that the forward has no future at Emirates
Stadium. He has left the club on a loan deal to Ligue 1 side Nice.
Fernandes is currently travelling with Portugal’s national team for their upcoming Nations League fixtures against the Czech Republic and Spain.
