Barcelona Yet to Pay Manchester City for Ferran Torres
La Liga giants FC Barcelona have not reportedly
paid Manchester City €52 million, the transfer money of Spanish international
Ferran Torres.
Finally, it was EPL side
Manchester City who signed the Spaniard after paying a transfer fee of
£20.8 million. Upon joining City, Torres had a tough start in City’s
star-studded lineup. But he soon adapted to City’s style of play and scored 13
goals in his first season at the Etihad.
Despite having a great start
in the following season, Torres suffered multiple injuries and was got down in
the pecking order. He then decided to join La Liga giants FC Barcelona in the
winter transfer window.
Barcelona still have to pay for Torres’s transfer
When Ferran joined Barcelona, it was reported that the Catalans
will be paying Manchester City the €52 million amount in various installments.
However, Catalunya Radio has
recently reported that Barcelona is yet to pay a single penny to the Citizens.
The reports further suggest that they will now have to pay the full amount by
this year itself.
Torres’s
deal also includes a variable amount of €3 million. But at this moment it seems
like Barcw will not have to pay that. With Barca’s recent struggles with their
finances, this is now looking like a new shock for the Catalan fans.
After
recovering from his injury last January, Torres was given a big role in Xavi’s
Barcelona team. The Spanish international started decently and had 13 goal
contributions for Barcelona in the second half of the season, helping them to
finish in the second spot in La Liga behind Real Madrid.
Barca
then signed Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha at the start of the season. Torres
meanwhile got injured and lost his form. As a result, he lost his place in the
starting lineup and has been mainly coming from the bench so far.
Xavi
meanwhile tried to play Torres in multiple roles but he has not performed in any
of them. Barcelona now have a gruelling schedule up ahead and is already
suffering from the injuries of multiple players.
Torres
has so far scored only one goal in the starting part of the season. The
Blaugrana will now hope Torres gets his form back soon and start to justify his
price tag.
