5 Unknown Players Who Gained Massive Fame in IPL After Performing Good Against India
IPL: Cameron
Green‘s performance in the recent T20I series against India has
sparked talks about his potential IPL prize at next season’s T20 competition.
The player in question may have traded in various forms of
cricket, but he actually appeared on the horizon when he plagued India and was
later rewarded with a contract in a rich man’s event.
Without a doubt, IPL led to the rise of several underdogs. The
amount of recognition some players received due to the league has been insane.
Following are the few players who shone brightly in the league and showcased
their hidden potential.
Here Are 5 Players Who Garnered
Enormous Fame and Money in IPL
1. Oden Smith (2022)
Odean Smith traveled to India this year after
playing three ODI matches against Ireland. He scored 18 for 8, 46 for 19 and
20* for 10, and won three goals. His impact in the T20Is hasn’t been nearly as
great – since his debut in 2018, Smith has scored 49 runs in four innings
before heading to India. However, his striking prowess was well known, and the
timing of the series – just days before the big 2022 auction – allowed Smith to
shine.
In the second ODI, Smith fixed the score at 2-29 and hit a 24
from 20 from a 9. In the next game, he had another hit and scored better with
36 from 18. The auction, held shortly after the India-West Indies ODI series,
showed Smith in high demand. Bought by the Punjab Kings for INR 6 crore, he has
failed to impress in the league, scoring 51 points in six games and racking up
six goals at an average near 30.
2. Kyle Jamieson (2021)
The sloppy, speedy player made his debut against India at home
in 2020, and the beaters struggled throughout his slick swings. Kyle
Jamieson racked up nine goals in two Test matches and made 44 and
49 in low-scoring games. Kyle was also very frugal in the ODIs, where he won
three signs in two games.
He won the man of the match award on his debut, with a score of
2-42 and a 25-match unbeaten run. All this has attracted the interest of the
IPL team owners, who have given their all for him at auction in 2021. The
ability to hit the ball was a bonus and he was eventually acquired by Royal
Challengers Bangalore for a whopping 15 Crore INR.
3. Sam Curran (2019)
Sam Curran made his Test debut against Pakistan at
Leeds in 2018, but it was during the series against India later that summer
that he pushed him into the limelight. In four test matches, he scored 272 runs
with two fifty-two forty and caught 11 catches. Annoyingly against the Indians,
Curran finished as England’s player in the series, helping England to a 4-1
win. His feat was remembered by the owners of IPL who were involved in an
intense bidding war for the youngster in the 2019 IPL auction. He was
eventually won by the Punjab Kings. redeemed for 7.2 crore INR. That year, he
scored a hat-trick, but ended up averaging – 95 runs and 10 goals in nine
games.
4. Tymal Mills (2017)
A few weeks prior to that year’s auctions, the India-England
T20I series in 2017 saw Tymal Mills dominate
the media attention. He was the most expensive bowler in the auction up to that
point after going for INR 12 crore, or 24 times his base price.
In early 2017, when playing his second T20I series. Mills only
managed to take three wickets in India, but his economy rate and death bowling
prowess shone out. A few days before the auctions. Royal Challengers Bangalore
parted ways with Mitchell Starc, therefore they were searching for an
international quick. He signed a significant deal thanks to the timing of
England’s series against India.
